In ancient Egypt, evidence conclude that the people used the practice of splinting to support their broken bones. Some mummies were found to have splints made from natural materials such as reeds, wood or bark that were padded with linen.
In ancient Greece, Hippocrates detailed research and work relating to the treatments of shoulder, knee and hip dislocations, in addition to the treatment of fracture infections, also paved the way for modern day orthopedics.
