hippocratic device
The Hippocratic bench, also known as the scamnum, was a device invented by the Greek physician Hippocrates (c. 460 BC to 380 BC).
This device made use of tension to settle the bones in a patients’ body. |
How it works
The patient has to lie flat on the bench and have his arms, legs, feet or waist tied up with ropes. After which, winches attached to the device would be used to pull the ropes apart to correct the deformity of the bone targeted. |
