The term orthopedics, as coined by physician Nicholas Andry, is derived from the Greek words orthos ("correct", "straight") and paidion ("child").
Orthopedics is the study into the various ways in which surgeons can treat musculoskeletal trauma, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors and congenital disorders
There has been increasing research into orthopedics in the medicine arena due to the rise in demand for more effective treatment of the musculoskeletal system.
This is something many people will come into contact with throughout life. Being relatable to our personal lives, it would be important to have some foundations and insights on the way such technologies work and how they can benefit us.
